Chelsie Featured on UCFAthletics.com

Chelsie Wiley had always been taught that shooters have short memories and live in the moment. So when the in-game announcement came last week that UCF's standout shooting guard scored her 1,000th point, she never once thought about soaking in the magnitude of the moment.

She helped her teammates get a defensive stop and then 34 seconds later boosted her career total to 1,002 career points with a nifty one-handed runner in the lane. It's a singular focus that helped the junior guard overcome an early-season slump and evolve into UCF's leading scorer down the stretch of this season.

Knights Down Houston as Wiley scores 1,000th career point

Two nights after one of its worst shooting nights of the season, UCF's women's basketball team came back Saturday night locked and loaded and delivered one of its finest shooting performances.

And UCF coach Joi Williams is convinced that the difference was more because of a mindset change than simply the ball falling one night and not on another night.

UCF scored its third-most points of the season by getting four players in double digits and holding a staggering 55-28 rebounding advantage in a 78-66 whipping of Houston that was one of the Knights' finest wins of the season.

Junior guard Chelsie Wiley had a team-high 21 points and scored her 1,000th career point with 56 seconds left in the first half. She made six of 13 shots, hit all eight of her free throws and grabbed six rebounds. She said she had no clue that she was close to moving into the 1,000-point club, but her focus was intently on helping UCF win in its final home game of the regular season.

Knights Host Houston Saturday at 7 p.m.

Before ending the season with a three-game road trip, the UCF women's basketball team hosts Houston at 7 p.m. Saturday night in its home finale at the UCF Arena. The Knights will be looking to bounce back from a frustrating 65-59 loss to Rice on Thursday night and build momentum before the stretch run and the Conference USA Tournament in early March.

UCF will be participating in the WBCA's Pink Zone initiative Saturday, joining the unified effort to raise breast cancer awareness. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game, and admission will be free for all in attendance. Additionally, the first 150 fans will receive a free pink t-shirt and the first 500 fans will receive a free C-USA Pink Zone placard.

It could be a historic night for UCF junior Chelsie Wiley (Riviera Beach, Fla.), who enters the game having scored 990 career points. Wiley is averaging 11.2 points per game this season.

Wiley Closing in on 1,000 as Knights Host Rice

After splitting a pair of road games last weekend, UCF returns to the UCF Arena Thursday night, hosting Rice at 7 p.m. for the first of two final home games in 2009-10. The Knights have won three of their last four overall and three of their last four on their home floor.

Junior Chelsie Wiley (Riviera Beach, Fla.) stands just 18 points shy of becoming the program's 13th member of the 1,000-point club. Teammate Emma Cannon (Rochester, N.Y.) topped the milestone earlier this season.

Last weekend, UCF battled out an 80-73 win at UAB on Friday night before losing a close 76-72 game to league-leading Memphis on Sunday. The Knights benefitted from a pair of career-high point totals to produce strong offensive performances. In Friday's win over the Blazers, junior Marshay White (Rochester, N.Y.) scored a career-high 26 points and UCF knocked down eight three-pointers. Sunday it was junior D'Nay Daniels (Atlanta, Ga.) with the strong outing, tallying 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting.

Knights Aim for Fourth-Straight Win Sunday

After notching its first C-USA road win on Friday night, UCF will aim to complete a stretch of four revenge games with an unblemished 4-0 record Sunday at Memphis at 3 p.m. EST. Riding a season-best three-game winning streak, the Knights can make it four in a row by defeating a Memphis team that won in Orlando 49-47 on Jan. 15.

In Friday night's contest at UAB, junior Marshay White (Rochester, N.Y.) scored a career-high 26 points off the bench to help UCF to an 80-73 victory. White was not alone for the Knights, as fellow juniors D'Nay Daniels (17), Chelsie Wiley (11) and Angelica Mealing (10) each tallied double figures.

Knights Win Second-Straight

If one win is a step, then two could very well be a full-out trot for the UCF women's basketball team. Now, the Knights are hoping they can put together a strong run similar to last season's stirring finish.

Their early-season struggles now a distant memory, UCF put together its third consecutive stellar effort and won for a second time in a row, this time beating Conference USA power East Carolina 60-50 at UCF Arena.

Remarkably, UCF (6-12, 3-6) has not trailed in the 80 minutes of the past two victories against Marshall and ECU (17-6, 6-4). UCF led or was tied all throughout Saturday's game and delivered a key 15-4 spurt after East Carolina had gotten the score tied at 42-all.

UCF Hosts ECU Saturday at 7 p.m.

One revenge game down, three to go for UCF in a stretch of four-straight against teams that beat UCF earlier this season. After getting back at Marshall with a 56-47 victory Thursday night, the Knights will return to the court Saturday to host East Carolina at 7 p.m., a team that downed UCF 73-62 on Jan. 10. In that contest, UCF stayed close despite committing 31 turnovers and junior Emma Cannon (Rochester, N.Y.) battling foul trouble.
