Carter and Cannon win C-USA awards
The Conference USA office announced Monday afternoon that UCF junior Emma Cannon (Rochester, N.Y.) and freshman Gevenia Carter (Houston, Texas) were named the C-USA Player and Freshman of the Week respectively. UCF sweeping the league's weekly awards signifies that after an up-and-down start to the season, the Knights seem to be heading in the right direction at just the right time.
After a 76-38 victory over Jackson State on Sunday, the UCF coaching staff and players parted ways for a few days to celebrate the holidays. They will be back together before too long and practice again on the 26th in preparation for hosting third-ranked Notre Dame on Dec. 29.

UCF Wins 80-46, Posts Ninth-Straight Home Win
Junior Marshay White tied a career high with 23 points and UCF (1-1) won its ninth-straight home game as the Knights rolled to an 80-46 victory over visiting Bethune-Cookman (1-2) in non-conference women's basketball action Friday night at the UCF Arena.
The Knights swept their eight Conference USA home games in 2008-09, and Friday's victory puts them just two wins shy of tying the program's Division I record of 11-straight home wins set in 1998-99.
"I thought we played hard for 40 minutes," said head coach Joi Williams. "We were able to play better defensively and force some turnovers while limiting our own turnovers offensively."

Patrick Featured in Florida Today
Carl Kotala of the Florida Today recently wrote a feature story on UCF sophomore and Rockledge native Aisha Patrick. An excerpt from the feature is below as well as a link to the full story.
Making her opponent have a miserable night has already become a habit for UCF sophomore guard Aisha Patrick.
But this season, the former Rockledge High star plans on sticking it to teams a different way.
"A lot of teams left me open a lot (last year)," she said. "So now I'm working on shooting."
Adding more firepower from the 5-foot-10 Patrick would be a big bonus for the UCF women's team...Read More

With Eyes on Her
Cannon, a player always quick to deflect the attention and recognition to her teammates, smiles and quickly brushes away all thoughts of extra pressure on her shoulders. Wearing her typical smile, Cannon instead uses words like humbled and responsibility.
"I was excited," said Cannon of getting the award. "There are a lot of great players in our conference, and for me to be named that is crazy. I am very humbled and honored to get selected, but it comes with a lot of responsibility so I will take that on and be ready."
While modest, the 6-foot-2 forward who has scored nearly 900 points in just two collegiate seasons knows that she is deserving and knows what is expected of her, but instead of focusing on defending her individual accolades, she talks of accomplishing team goals.
"There is no pressure," said Cannon. "I am just going to continue to do the little things and help this team work hard and success will pay off for us in the end. Everyone wants to work hard, everyone is hungry, and everyone wants to get back to where we left off a year ago."
